The problem: A major UK carrot producer asked MacTavish:West to examine potential for converting waste carrots into higher value products than animal feed. Waste volumes can run into many tonnes per week.

The solution: MacTavish:West reviewed bioactives in carrots of interest to different potential market sectors, outlining potential volumes, value and processing steps & equipment required. Samples were submitted for trial extraction to examine suitability and to assess final product quality.

The results: The client is now investigating market potential for new, unique higher-value products from waste carrots.
