Does English-grown asparagus taste better than imports from across the world?

Does English-grown asparagus taste better than imports from across the world?

The problem: The Yorkshire-based Regional Food Group wanted to find points of potential differentiation for locally grown asparagus compared with imports from Europe and South America.

The solution: With Stockbridge Technology Centre, MacTavish:West planned sampling trials and determined suitable analytical and assessment techniques including sugars, carbohydrates, pigments and anti-oxidants.

The result: We found that locally grown asparagus in season was significantly and consistently sweeter than imports.
