The smell of the Isles...describing fragrance in varieties of Scented Narcissi from the Isles of Scilly
The problem: the Isles of Scilly Scented Narcissi growers wanted to define the fragrance of key varieties for marketing and promotional purposes.
The solution: MacTavish:West collaborated with two other perfumers and together we were helicoptered onto the Isle. We appeared in a televised documentary, assessing the varieties and later, extracting fragrance for use by the fragrance industry. We described the different varieties much as you would a fine wine:
Variety; Scilly White: A heady, floral top-note evocative of hyacinth and lilac; with a trace of fresh, green bell pepper supported by a hint of grapefruit.
We presented these results and gave a talk to the great and the good of the floristry world about the at the Duchy of Cornwalls offices near Buckingham Palace and launched a fragrance description competition, the winner getting to name a new variety.
The result: Coverage in a wide range of media.
‘MacTavish:West provided the focal point for two media events arranged to promote Isles of Scilly Scented Narcissi. Their informative presentation and ability to communicate complex issues to consumer media – both broadcast and print – was enormously helpful in encouraging positive coverage from the media.’
